Dan Brickley just mentioned a patch to Mailman for producing RSS feeds for a list.

RSS, RSS aggregators -- these seem to be turning into the common format for pushing/mixing data all over the web. With blogs, increasingly, being on the "input" side of the stream.

I like mailing lists because they're slightly antiquated, tends to discourage noisiness.
RSS feeds don't change the "antiquity"
Just allows access from a wider audience, and it's not a two-way thing -- there may be meta-discusions about/around the list feed, which may encourage more people to sign up, but the communication will all still go through the list.
more subs = more noise
usually, unless list is moderated.
